Yukata, Creativity, and Good Vibes: Highlights from Our Two-Day Workshop !

Updated: Jul 25, 2025

At Yamato Kimono Remix, we’ve always been passionate about sharing the beauty of Yukata with others. Our recent workshop was no exception. On Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th July 2025, we hosted a fun and engaging two-day workshop that allowed our guests to explore the traditional art of Yukata wearing with a twist of modern creativity. Here’s a recap of the experience – from a little theory to lots of creativity and fun!

Day 1: A Stylish Introduction to Yukata

Our workshop kicked off with a small but important theoretical introduction. We talked about the history and significance of Yukata, the different types, and their role in Japanese culture. It was a quick dive into the world of Yukata – just enough to set the stage for what was to come!

Then, it was time to get hands-on! With our group of four vibrant participants (ages 20-25, from different corners of the world), we started with the essential task of choosing the perfect Yukata and Obi (the traditional "belt"). It was fascinating to see how everyone took to the task, each person picking a design that reflected their unique style.

The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to learning how to wear the Yukata and tie the Obi correctly. Nozomi, Imene, and I (Matthew) were there to guide the participants step by step, helping them get comfortable with the fabric and the knotting techniques. We had plenty of laughs along the way as everyone learned how to properly secure their Yukata, and we could tell they were already feeling the excitement of wearing their outfits. By the end of the session, everyone looked fantastic and ready for Day 2!

Day 2: Adding a Creative Twist

Day 2 was all about taking what we learned on the first day and getting a bit more creative. After a quick revision of the techniques we covered the day before, we got back into our Yukata and added a fun twist—Western accessories! Sunglasses, ties, skirts, and hats were all on the table as our participants embraced the fusion of Japanese tradition and Western style.

It was clear from the start that our group was not just following the instructions—they were really embracing the creative freedom we gave them. The energy and good vibes were contagious as each person added their personal touch to their Yukata look. Some went for bold, funky accessories, while others added more subtle touches. But all of them looked great, and more importantly, they felt great too.

One of the best parts of Day 2 was seeing how everyone took their time styling themselves. You could see the excitement and commitment in the way they approached the accessories, carefully choosing what best represented their personalities. It was a perfect balance of tradition and modern fun!

At the end of the workshop, every participant got to leave with their very own Yukata, Obi, and all the accessories they had chosen and styled themselves with—what a fantastic souvenir to remember this special experience!

A Workshop to Remember

Our two-day Yukata workshop was an absolute success. Nozomi, Imene, and I had a blast working with such an energetic and creative group. Our participants, all full of positive energy, were a joy to guide through the workshop. They didn’t just learn how to wear a Yukata—they got to express themselves, experiment with their style, and, most importantly, have fun!

Whether you're a Yukata beginner or someone looking to explore traditional Japanese fashion with a modern twist, this workshop is for you. We hope to see you at our next one, where creativity meets culture, and everyone leaves with a smile (and a stylish Yukata)!

See you soon!
